On Thursday, 24th June, our Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 football teams traveled up to Auckland to participate in the Annual Adventist Football Tournament, held at South Auckland Seventh-day Adventist School.
Our Year 5/6 team drew their first two games and won their third game to solidify their place in the Semi-finals against the South Auckland SDA B team. Our team won their Semi-final after Wizdom ran onto a loose ball on the edge of the goal box and fired into the top corner. In the Final, against South Auckland SDA A team, our Year 5/6’s worked hard but ended up claiming second place after losing their Final 1-0.
According to Vania, a student in Year 6, it was "one of the best experiences I have ever had! I have never been to a tournament before". When asked what her highlight was, she said, "Mr. Hurlow bought us ice cream!"
Our Year 7/8 team won their first two games and drew their third game, booking their place in the Semi-final against Waitakere SDA School.
The team worked hard to maintain the onslaught by the attacking opposition, with Noah demonstrating great agility in goal, twice saving shots that rocketed towards goal. Despite their resilient defending, Waitakere scored a goal that
was the difference in the end.
Well done to both teams! They demonstrated determination, teamwork, and grit, even when the chips were down! You represented our school well.
